Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month perhaps took on more significance in 2021 as the community has endured senseless attacks during the COVID-19 pandemic.

While these unfortunate events led to a more glaring spotlight being shone on AAPIs, The Balance wanted to showcase individual success stories within the community to help celebrate and reflect on the essence of AAPI Heritage Month.

Throughout the month of May, we spoke with AAPI business founders across industries, from certified financial planner and Investopedia Top Financial Advisor Marguerita Cheng, to “wellcare” advocate and the beauty entrepreneur Lin Chen and chai tea maker/proprietor Farah Jesani. Our conversations sparked a wealth of anecdotes about their upbringing, overcoming adversity, and the cultural connections to their respective career paths. In the process, we learned why AAPI Heritage Month should be celebrated year-round.
